The show for the 2022 US election is on: Donald Trump’s most dangerous rival, Ron DeSantis, is now on tour – with gossip.
Des Moines/Iowa – Stricter abortion laws and looser gun laws: Ron DeSantis is driving a hard right-wing course in the state of Florida and presents himself as a fighter once morest a left-wing “woke” ideology. US election 2024
The presidential election is scheduled for November 5, 2024. The primary begins in February 2024. The Republican primary winner will challenge incumbent Joe Biden of the Democratic Party, who is running for re-election.
There is a wide field of applicants for the Republicans: In addition to Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley is the only woman in the race. Also present: Mike Pence (not officially declared yet!), Tim Scott, Asa Hutchinson, Vivek Ramaswamy and Larry Elder.
Polls on “Trump with brains”: DeSantis as a Republican hope?
With this self-confidence, DeSantis actually contradicts the current surveys for the US election in 2024. After a survey high following his re-election as governor of Florida, he is in a solid second place in the Republican field with around 21 percent (see info box above). The distance to his former sponsor Trump, who has been attacking him for months, is more than 30 points.
But nine months before the start of the primary elections, such polls are only of limited value. DeSantis – who recently embarrassed himself with Elon Musk on Twitter – is still the hope of many conservatives, who many of them consider less scandalous than the ex-president – a “Trump with brains”, as DeSantis repeatedly calls it.
Die New York Times stressed a few days ago that the American public judged DeSantis “somewhat more positively” than Trump, who, according to polls, achieved “below-average” popularity ratings. (frs)
