RS virus: What symptoms does the respiratory infection cause? | NDR.de – Guide

Respiratory syncytial virus affects the upper and lower airways. It is the most common cause of respiratory infections, especially in premature babies, infants and small children. Since their immune system is not yet fully developed, severe courses, including death, occur again and again. People with immunodeficiency or a suppressed immune system are also at risk, while an RSV infection in healthy adolescents and adults is usually harmless. Because RSV occurs more frequently in the cold season and has almost identical symptoms, RSV diseases are similar to the flu (influenza).
