She declares her opinion and takes refuge in silence, arguing with me, but I am in the whirlpool of wine. I imagine her answering, so I conduct a dialogue that in my mind is one of its sides, even though she is not in her position.

Samia Gamal gave in to persuading him to stop drinking, and then she asked for a divorce, so Rushdie collected his things and left his home after 17 years of marriage.
