The founder of the Russian Wagner mercenary group Prigozin announced on the 8th that the Wagner group has controlled “all eastern regions” of the Ukrainian salt town of Bakhmut.
In an audio recording, Prigozin said: “The soldiers of the Wagner Group have completely occupied the eastern part of Bahemut, that is, all the part east of the Bahemut River.”
The Russian army and the Ukrainian army have competed fiercely for the strategic city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine in recent weeks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Ukrainian army will stick to Bakhmut, warning that if Bakhmut is captured by the Russian army, it may “open the door to Udon” for the Russian army.
Bakhmut is a small salt mining town in Udon, with a population of 80,000 before the Russo-Ukrainian War, and now it has become one of the bloodiest battlefields in the Russo-Ukrainian War.
