Russia Wounds 9 in Ukraine Strikes Before Peace Talks

Russian strikes on Kyiv and other regions wounded at least nine people, including a child, and damaged critical infrastructure on November 7, 2026, just days before planned peace talks with the United States and Russia. The attacks targeted energy facilities and bridges, causing blackouts and water disruptions in the capital as temperatures dropped near freezing.

Russian Strikes Leave Kyiv in Darkness

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched 36 ballistic missiles and 172 drones in a coordinated overnight attack, with only four missiles intercepted. The situation in the capital is difficult, with disruptions to electricity, water, and heating supplies. Residential buildings, the North Bridge, and a kindergarten have been damaged, Zelenskyy said.

The strikes specifically targeted substations that connect the Rivne and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants to Kyiv and central Ukraine, according to Ukrainian officials. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the Northern Bridge was hit, closing a key transport artery, and a kindergarten was partially destroyed.

The attacks have plunged Kyiv into an extremely difficult situation regarding power, heating, and water supplies, with Klitschko noting that overnight temperatures dropped to 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit).

In the Kyiv region, governor Tymur Tkachenko said energy facilities in three districts had been hit, while Ukraine’s Energy Ministry stated the damage included networks carrying electricity from nuclear power plants and multiple other power facilities. Debris from the attack was also reported to have struck a five-storey apartment building in a western district of the capital.

Energy and industrial facilities in the Kyiv region, an electricity substation in the neighboring Zhytomyr region, and a cargo vessel in the Black Sea were also damaged.

Russia Accused of Escalation Before Peace Talks

Zelenskyy accused Russia of intensifying attacks ahead of trilateral talks scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday in Abu Dhabi. Russia perceives diplomacy in its own peculiar way – as a form of aggression, he wrote on social media, adding that Moscow was trying to push Kyiv … and the entire country into a blackout to pressure Ukraine during negotiations.

The Ukrainian leader also claimed that preliminary findings showed Russia used KN-23 missiles, manufactured and supplied by North Korea, to strike energy facilities.

Zelenskyy said that Russia had stepped up strikes to build pressure on Ukraine ahead of the Abu Dhabi talks.

Russian Strikes Kill One and Wound Many Across Ukraine

At least nine people were wounded across Ukraine, including a child, with one person killed and eight wounded in the overnight attack on Kyiv and surrounding areas. A 72-year-old man in Komyshuvakha, a village in the Zaporizhzhia region, recounted searching for his wife after a Russian strike, saying She went to get humanitarian aid, and a three-ton bomb was dropped there. Where is she?

In a separate incident in the Zaporizhzhia region, the death toll from a Russian strike on an aid distribution point in Komyshuvakha on November 6 rose to 50, making it one of the deadliest attacks on civilians this year. Dozens of people remain missing.

Zelenskyy Seeks US Support as Trump Discusses Potential Resolution

Zelenskyy appealed to the US Congress for increased support, stating Ukraine must not be left alone. We are counting on increased bilateral support from the US.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about a potential resolution, envisioning a big, beautiful agreement involving all of Europe.

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump said the war could be close to being settled following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, at the White House. Trump said he did not meet the Ukrainian delegation on that day.

Western diplomats note that agreeing to Russia’s demands to reverse NATO’s expansion to its pre-1997 posture would effectively end the alliance. Ukraine and its European partners are deeply sceptical.
