Russian Drone Attack on Ukrainian Port: Destruction of Grain Warehouses and International Tensions

KIEV – Russia launched a drone attack on a Ukrainian port to stop shipping on the Danube River. The attack took place on Wednesday night in the port of Reni on the Danube River. The attack was to stop the movement of grain through the river and to destroy warehouses. Ukraine released pictures of destroyed warehouses. Ukraine says it has repelled 13 drone attacks on its port.

An agreement was reached earlier to allow the movement of goods through the Black Sea, brokered by the United Nations (UN) and Turkey. However, in violation of that agreement, Russia attacked the port of Odesa last month. With this, Ukraine found a way to deliver grain to Europe through the Danube River and by road. Ukraine’s main source of income is exporting wheat, barley and sunflower oil to Europe.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong ship, which had been stuck since February 2022 when the Russian invasion began, departed from Odessa port. The journey is through the ‘Humanitarian Corridor’ through the Black Sea. But Russia has not yet said that it will allow this. There are more than 30,000 tons of food on board.
