Russian President attends Vostok-2022 military exercises | News

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin; Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu; and the chief of the General Staff of the Army, Valeri Gerasimov, attended the Vostok-2022 military exercises on Tuesday, in the far east of the country and in which troops from China, among other nations, participated.

The week-long exercise, which began on Thursday, is aimed at showcasing the growing defense ties between Russia and China and also show that Moscow has enough troops and equipment for the massive drills.

In some images released by the Kremlin, the Russian president can be seen observing the maneuvers with binoculars in a command center of the Sergeevsky training camp, in the eastern Russian province of Primorye.



As a result of the operations rehearsed in the maneuvers, “the enemy was defeated”, indicated the Ministry of Defense about the last phase of the drill, observed by the Russian president.

The military exercises began on September 1 and will last until Wednesday, September 7 with more than 50,000 soldiers and more than 5,000 pieces of military equipment, including 140 aircraft and 60 ships.

Among the participating countries are several neighbors of Russia, as well as Syria, India and its key ally China.
The last time Russia carried out such maneuvers was in 2018.



Soldiers from Azerbaijan, Algeria, Armenia, Belarus, India, China, Nicaragua and Syria, among other countries, also participate in the maneuvers.

Putin’s visit to the Far East will continue on Wednesday in the port city of Vladivostok, where he is due to address the Eastern Economic Forum.
