[16日 ロイター] – Ukrainian and Polish officials said on Monday that fighters from the Russian private military company Wagner, which launched an armed uprising in June, had arrived in Belarus. Belarusian officials said a day earlier that Wagner fighters were training soldiers at a military training ground southeast of the capital Minsk.

Several Wagner units have been in Belarus since at least the 11th, according to two sources close to the fighters.

A spokesman for the Ukrainian border guard told the telegram app Telegram that “a separate group” had been identified in Belarus from Russia.

A Polish government official said the government also confirmed there were Wagner fighters in Belarus, posting on Twitter that “there may be hundreds at this time.” Poland said this month it was stepping up security at its border with Belarus to deal with potential threats.

Meanwhile, Wagner founder Prigozin has not been seen in public since leaving Rostov-on-Don on the night of June 24.
