Russian troops kill a US journalist in the city of Irpin

Russian forces would have killed the journalist Brent Renaud in an attack in Irpin, on the outskirts of Kiev, as reported by the head of the Police of the Kiív region, Andrii Nebitov, and the Ukrainian press reports.

“Today, a 51-year-old correspondent of the famous newspaper ‘The New York Times’ was shot dead in Irpin. Another journalist was injured. Right now we are trying to get the victim out of the combat zone,” Nebitov said.

Despite the fact that the Ukrainian government initially assured that it is a journalist from the New York Times, the American newspaper has denied it through a statement. They say they are deeply saddened by the death of an American journalist in Ukraine, Brend Renaud, a talented photographer and filmmaker, but he was not on the payroll of the New York Times.

“The invaders kill even international media journalists who are trying to show the truth of the atrocities of Russian troops in Ukraine,” Nebitov said in a Facebook post.

The post features a photo of Renaud’s ID and another of his passport confirming that he is a US citizen.
