[27日 ロイター] – A leading Russian lawmaker said on Wednesday that the country should have 7 million professional soldiers so that private military companies are not needed for national security.

Rep. Leonid Slutsky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia and an early truce negotiator in Ukraine, said Russia needed at least seven million contracted troops of military and civilian personnel in addition to existing conscripts.

“Russia does not need private military companies (PMCs) or anything like that,” he said in a post on the telegram app Telegram.

At the end of last year, Putin backed a plan to increase the size of the military, including contract soldiers, from 1.15 million to 1.5 million.
