New Delhi: Olympic and Commonwealth Games medalist Saina Nehwal will not participate in the National Badminton Trials. Apart from Saina, Malvika Bansod will also not participate in the trials. The trials for the Asian Mixed Team Championship will be held in Dubai from February 14 to 19.
Former World No. 1 P.V. Sindhu and Akarshi Kashyap are in trials. The Badminton Association of India has made it clear that Ashmita Chaliha has been invited to the trials instead of Saina. Saina’s main challenge is injury. Saina has slipped to 31st place in the world rankings when her form has faded. Saina also did not participate in the Commonwealth Games trials held in April.
