“It is considered pertinent ex officio to request the director of the UNP to immediately carry out a risk study on Salvatore Mancuso Gómez (…) so that based on the result of the same, from the moment his freedom, his fundamental rights to life and personal integrity are guaranteed in due form,” the judge indicated.

According to the Blu Radio station, UNP sources confirmed that Mancuso’s protection is already approved, since the process began months ago, when his extradition to Colombia was announced after serving his 16-year sentence in the United States.

The media outlet explained that, through resolution 0471 of 2023 of December 15, the committee for risk assessment and definition of protection measures of the Special Peace Jurisdiction (JEP), through the Accusation Investigation Unit ( UIA) of that court, analyzed the risk and recommended protective measures for Mancuso with a validity of 12 months. This appears signed by Judge Giovanni Álvarez Santoyo, who is the director of the UIA.

Then, with resolution 0038 of January 15 of this year, the UNP ordered the implementation based on recommendations from the UIA, so, from the moment the former paramilitary chief was appointed peace manager, the JEP analyzed him. of the risk and recommended measures.

This means that, when Mancuso is released on probation, he will have an entity security scheme.

The probation that Salvatore Mancuso will enjoy for four years has several restrictions, since from the outset this figure is imposed to monitor him during this period of time while it is decided if he is suitable to regain total freedom.

Mancuso, for example, will have to appear every three months before a judicial authority in Medellín, where he will live.

But in addition, Judge Zamora accepted the request of the Attorney General’s Office to prohibit Mancuso from visiting the departments of Córdoba, Sucre, Bolívar, Atlántico, César, Magdalena, Norte de Santander and La Guajira, as well as the Antioquian municipalities of San Pedro de Urabá , Necoclí, Ituango, Arboletes and Apartadó, territories in which his criminal actions took place.

If Mancuso wanted to travel to those places, or his task as peace manager required his presence there, he himself or the High Commissioner for Peace must send an official statement to the current office, within a period of five business days, so that The judge grants him temporary permission.
