Samsung’s OLED television delivers excellent picture quality, deep blacks, and unlimited viewing angles, according to evaluations. The display combines precise dark-level performance with effective high dynamic range capabilities, offering consumers an advanced panel option despite average built-in audio output.
Display Achieves Exceptional Color Accuracy and Profound Contrast
Reproduction of fine image detail on the QN48S85H is excellent. Color accuracy ranks as exceptional, rendering flesh tones in a natural and lifelike manner. The display achieves profound contrast by maximizing the variance between the darkest blacks and the brightest whites in dark scenes, lending substantial depth and dimension to moving images.
Black levels are remarkably deep, further reinforcing contrast during low-light sequences. Up-conversion of standard high-definition content to ultra-high-definition resolution remains largely free of jagged edges. Deinterlacing of 1080i video and frame-rate compensation for 1080i film-based content both meet rigorous performance standards. Motion handling on this OLED panel yields minimal blurring during fast-paced sequences.
Display Sustains High Peak Brightness and Unlimited Viewing Angles
High dynamic range performance proves highly effective. The display sustains a very high peak brightness capability that enhances the realism of 4K HDR content. It preserves mid-to-lower tones in indoor scenes while accurately detailing the contrast between moderately bright and very bright highlights. Shaded areas display nuanced shadow detail without obvious banding, though a minor loss of detail occurs within the brightest highlight zones.
Viewing angles are virtually unlimited. Contrast and black-level consistency remain stable when observing the screen from extreme lateral positions. A slight shift in color tone appears from wide side angles, but overall color fidelity and image quality do not degrade. Vertical viewing angles from above and below center screen yield no significant shifts in color or contrast.
Speakers Produce Adequate Volume with Average Sound Quality
Sound quality measures as average among tested display models. Bass frequencies are moderately deep, providing a sense of fullness while lacking fine definition. Treble reproduction is very good, remaining neutral though slightly bright and closed in. Speakers produce adequate volume for typical room environments, making the default audio acceptable for general viewing.
The hardware interface includes a simplified remote control featuring a minimal button layout and an integrated microphone for voice commands. A secondary microphone built directly into the television chassis permits hands-free voice control without relying on the handheld clicker. The remote itself operates via radio frequency, eliminating the need for direct line-of-sight pointing.
Tizen Portal Grants Access to Broad Streaming Library
Internet connectivity runs through Samsung’s Tizen portal, granting access to a broad library of applications. Supported streaming services include Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, BET+, DirecTV, Disney Plus, Fubo TV, HBO Max, Netflix, Paramount+, Peacock, Sling TV, Starz, YouTube, and YouTube TV. Virtual assistant integration features built-in Amazon Alexa and Samsung Bixby platforms.
Physical and wireless connectivity options comprise four HDMI inputs, two USB ports, an optical digital audio output, an Ethernet port, and 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6E networking. Apple AirPlay support is included for streaming media directly from compatible Apple devices. The hardware package ships complete with the television and the simplified remote control unit.
