Samsung Reportedly Developing 17-Inch Foldable Tablet

Samsung Prepares 17-Inch Foldable Tablet After TriFold Release

Samsung is developing a foldable tablet that reaches a 17-inch screen size when fully opened, TIMES Indonesia reported on October 31, 2026. The device folds down to an 8-inch display for portable use. This project expands Samsung past smartphone formats into large-screen foldable hardware.

The leak surfaced on the social media platform X through tech tipster @kro_roe. Gizmochina reported that Samsung has already started building prototypes for the device. Samsung has not announced panel types, battery capacities, pricing, or an official commercial release date.

Building on Galaxy Z TriFold and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Sales

This large-screen project follows earlier experiments with folding hardware. Samsung previously launched the Galaxy Z TriFold with a 10-inch open display in a limited release. Inventory for that model in the United States sold out in April 2026.

Global pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8 increased by 30 percent compared to previous generations. Beritasatu.com noted that Samsung Display has previously exhibited large OLED folding panels at technology trade shows. Jagat Gadget reported that Samsung might use either a single folding panel or combine a 17-inch main screen with an 8-inch outer display.

Apple IPad Folding Projections for 2028

Samsung faces competition in the large foldable device category. Vietnam.vn reported that Apple is testing an iPad with an 18 to 20-inch folding display. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that Apple will launch its first folding iPad in 2028.

Neither Samsung nor Apple has provided confirmed launch timelines for these large devices. Both companies continue to test hinge durability and software optimization before establishing the new hardware category.
