It is developed from the 14nm EUV product currently on the market. It was also announced that the new DDR5 DRAM is compatible with AMD products.

The new RAM is developed and manufactured by Samsung using a new material that increases cell capacity and a design technology that improves critical circuit characteristics.

“The new 12nm memory will be a major enabler in driving the adoption of DDR5 DRAM across the market,” said Jooyoung Lee, Executive Vice President, Samsung Corporation.

“With exceptional performance and energy efficiency, we expect the new RAM to serve as the foundation for more sustainable operations in areas such as next-generation computing, data centers, and AI-driven systems,” he added.

The DDR5 DRAM runs at a higher density which allows for a 20% increase in chip throughput. It also consumes 23% less energy.

This is why Samsung’s new memory will be an ideal solution for IT companies seeking more environmentally friendly operations.

Also, taking advantage of the latest DDR5 standard, Samsung’s 12nm-class RAM will help. It reaches speeds of up to 7.2 Gbps.

This means that the new RAM will be able to process two movies in UHD quality (3840 x 2160 resolution) and 30 GB in just one second.

“Innovation often requires close collaboration with industry partners to push the boundaries of technology,” said Joe McCurry, Senior Vice President, AMD Corporation.

He added, “We are pleased to cooperate again with Samsung. Especially in introducing DDR5 memory which is optimized and validated on our Zen architecture.”

Finally, the Korean giant Samsung is expected to start shipping new DDR5 DRAM memory cards in 2023.
