Bengal lead by one goal against Kerala in Santosh Trophy final Bengal took the lead in the seventh minute of extra time through Dileep Orvan. Neither team was able to score in the allotted time. Despite the good chances, the Bengal goalkeeper’s brilliant saves and unfortunate setback for Kerala. Bengal, on the other hand, could not capitalize on the 2 goal chances they got. Though Bengal had the upper hand in ball possession, Kerala provided more opportunities.
In the 18th minute, despite getting a free kick in favor of Kerala, the Bengal goalkeeper caught the kick of captain Jijo Joseph. Then, in the 23rd minute, Bengal lost a great goal opportunity. Coach Bino George led the same team to the final against Karnataka in the semi – finals. Jess, who came on as a substitute against Karnataka and scored 5 goals, was left out of the playing XI.
Goalkeeper Mithun became the savior of Kerala in the 37th minute by scoring Mohitesh Roy’s goal. Then in the 38th minute, coach Bino Borge Jess pulled Vignesh off the field. Although Jesse tried to test the Bengal defense by making a number of advances, the goal alone did not come. Just before the end of the first half, with only goalkeeper Mithun in front, Bengal squandered their golden opportunity to score.
