Books – Marwan Al-Tayeb:

The management of the Cannes International Film Festival, in its 77th session this year, announced its official list of cinematic works participating in the events this year, whether in the official competition or outside it, and it witnessed a diversity of drama, comedy, and action by the most prominent stars and filmmakers around the world.

For the first time, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will participate in the drama film “Noura” in the “Un Certain Regard” competition. The film’s director, Tawfiq Al-Zaidi, commented on the film’s participation in the Cannes International Film Festival through a post he published on his official account “X” and said: “The word nomination is a different word.” It is accurate and not suitable for the Cannes Film Festival. We need a media press that has knowledge in the field of cinema and is synonymous with such cinematic events. All thanks to everyone who contributed, wrote, celebrated and worked hard in the news of Noura’s film being selected in the official competition in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival.”

Counselor Turki Al-Sheikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, was also keen to bless the selection of the film “Noura” to be shown within the activities of the Cannes International Film Festival in its 77th session this year, and responded to “Al-Zaidi’s” post, saying: “Congratulations and do not pay attention to the votes here and there. God willing, you will achieve it.” What you deserve for the country and for yourselves. You are a Saudi and this is the real prize.”

The film “Noura” is the first feature-length narrative experience by Saudi director and film writer Tawfiq Al-Zaidi. The film’s events take place within a dramatic context in the 1990s in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, around “Noura,” who lives in a remote village. Her life changes when a person arrives who re-ignites her passion for art, and participates in… The film stars Saudi actor Yacoub Al-Farhan, actress Maria Bahrawi, and actor Abdullah Al-Sadhan, written by Tawfiq Al-Zaidi in cooperation with Scottish actor and screenwriter Stephen Strachan, and directed by Tawfiq Al-Zaidi.

It is noteworthy that the 77th Cannes International Film Festival this year will be held from May 15-24.
