The Scandinavian countries are this year’s partner region of Formnext 2023. The countries have committed to show both the potential of the AM industry in Northern Europe and to focus on sustainability at the fair. The AM organizations in the various countries have already announced several initiatives for Formnext.

From 7 to 10 November, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden will be in a joint pavilion at Formnext 2023. Lead partner is Danish AM Hub. The Finnish Additive Manufacturing Ecosystem (FAME) and Norwegian AM, the Additive Manufacturing Cluster Norway, join them.

Logical choice

Sascha F. Wenzler, Vice President Formnext at Mesago Messe Frankfurt thinks the choice for the Scandinavian countries is a logical one. In these countries, 3D printing is shown to be viable for commercial applications, particularly in the energy sector and with a focus on material efficiency. “The countries involved are showing the world how they combine commercial viability with sustainability, perfectly demonstrating how 3D printing can play a role in creating a responsible manufacturing industry.” Some 24 Scandinavian exhibitors are expected to participate in the pavilion at the Frankfurt fair.

AM ambitions of Denmark

The Danes in particular are passionate about AM. Frank Rosengreen Lorenzen, CEO of the Danish AM Hub, says he has been working with the cluster for the past three years on “how Denmark can become the most expert place in the world when it comes to using AM for more sustainable production.” To this end, the AM hub has been busy promoting the technology to innovative business owners, design and production engineers and manufacturers. The Danish companies showcase a wide range of innovations across the entire AM process chain, including research & development, services, materials and post-processing solutions. For example, the young company Create it Real has developed a specialized solution for the orthopedic industry. Denmark has a number of well-known companies that have been using 3D Printing for years, such as Lego, Danfoss or Grundfos.

Sandvik not only produces AM powder, but is also active in other areas with 3D printing.

Showcases and other activities

The Scandinavian pavilion will soon include a special showcase of successful AM applications. As part of the program, large companies from the partner region will present inspiring AM use cases and the Danish AM Hub will host a panel on sustainability. The Finnish AM industry has strong links with industry, bringing numerous service providers (3D Formtech, 3DStep, Delva), software suppliers, polymer 3D printer manufacturers and research and development companies to Formnext.

Sweden has traditionally had a successful raw material industry, and this is also reflected in the AM world with AM material manufacturers such as Sandvik and Höganäs, both world market leaders. There are also Swedish exhibitors from the entire process chain, presenting solutions for research & development, software, hardware, services and finishing.

Formnext 2023 will take place from November 7 – 10 this year.
