Schoduvel in Braunschweig: around 300,000 people celebrate carnival | NDR.de – News – Lower Saxony

129 wagons, 28 music trains and 4,500 active people pulled through the center of Braunschweig on Sunday at the first Schoduvel after the Corona break. It is considered to be Northern Germany’s largest carnival parade.

The Schoduvel – Low German for “scare away the devil!” – started in bright sunshine. – at noon. Under the motto “Nice costumes everywhere. We’re celebrating carnival today,” the approximately five-kilometer-long train meandered through the city. According to the organizers, around 300,000 visitors – including many in costume – lined the streets. The first Schoduvel after Corona was one of the most successful of the last ten years. The police spoke of a trouble-free process. There were only a few pickpocketing and physical altercations.

Thousands when moving in Hanover and Osnabrück

Already on Saturday in Osnabrück and Hanover Thousands of people celebrated at the street carnival. Despite the inclement weather, “Ossensamstag” attracted up to 12,000 partygoers onto the streets. Similarly in Hanover: According to the police, around 10,000 to 12,000 spectators followed the parade in the state capital.
