Senate approves renewal for 15 days of the State of Exception in the South Macrozone | National

By 39 votes in favor, one vote against and two abstentions, the Senate approved the 15-day extension of the State of Emergency Constitutional Exception for the South Macrozone.

The Senate Chamber approved this Tuesday night the extension of the state of Constitutional Exception in the so-called South Macrozone for 15 days, after registering 39 votes in favor, one against and 2 abstentions.

In this way, the State of Exception will be extended from June 30 for another 15 days, in the region of La Araucanía and the provinces of Arauco and Biobío.

The only vote against was from the independent senator, Fabiola Campillai, while Yasna Provoste (DC) and José Miguel Durana (UDI) abstained.

Despite the fact that the majority of the opposition senators supported the renewal of the State of Exception, from Chile Vamos they criticized the Government for implementing the measure in a limited manner.

Even the senator for Renovación Nacional, José García Ruminot, asked the government to use the tool completely, and leave its condition limited.

Government and State of Exception

The renewal of the State of Exception had already been approved on Tuesday afternoon by the Chamber of Deputies, where several pro-government parliamentarians voted against the measure or abstained.

Equally, the Minister of the Interior, Izkia Siches, highlighted the measure, despite the serious incidents and dismissed the criticism for the limitation of the State of Exception.

“The figures are eloquent and I want to realize that in reality the instrument that we are using is the one that is within the Constitution (…) And if this is bounded or not bounded, that is a debate that is spurious [falso o ilegítimo]Siches said.

The Minister of the Interior, present in Congress from 10 in the morning to 10 at night, did not want to confirm if they are already projecting new requests, but she did say that they are working to avoid having to continue resorting to this extension.

The declaration for the military deployment will go through the Comptroller’s Office and then through the Official Gazette, so that it arrives until June 30. For those days, the government will have to decide again.
