The revered image of the Señor de los Milagros returned to the streets of Lima on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, to fulfill its fourth and penultimate procession of the year.
A Journey of Faith Through Central Lima
The extensive religious observance began from the Santuario de las Nazarenas on jirón Huancavelica. The departure took place at 06:00 hours, setting off an extensive journey through the Center of Lima and Breña before returning to the temple. The itinerary continued through avenidas Tacna and Nicolás de Piérola, and jirón Cañete, before reaching avenida Alfonso Ugarte. As the massive wooden platform carried the Cristo de Pachacamilla through the streets of the capital, shifting squads of faithful cargadores took turns bearing the weight. By the afternoon, the twelfth cuadrilla had taken over the heavy beams along avenida Bolivia, while the eleventh squad had previously shouldered the sacred burden on avenida Venezuela.
Thousands of devoted followers accompanied the procession, filling the urban thoroughfares with prayers and hymns. Among the notable participants in the massive crowds was Aurelio Jaramillo, known as El Titi in Sin senos no hay paraíso, who joined the procession to express his devotion for the Cristo Moreno.
Emotional Stops at Major Capital Hospitals
A central emotional focal point of the day’s itinerary unfolded along avenida Alfonso Ugarte, where the procession made stops outside two of the city’s critical medical facilities: the Hospital Nacional Docente Madre Niño San Bartolomé and the Hospital Nacional Arzobispo Loayza. The sacred image arrived at the Hospital Nacional Arzobispo Loayza just past midday.

Patients, their families, and frontline healthcare workers gathered outside the hospital gates to pay tribute to the Cristo Moreno. According to coverage from Agencia Andina, medical staff and hospitalized patients participated directly in the solemn open-air homage, seeking spiritual solace and renewal during the visit. Among the groups congregating along the avenue to witness the passage of the Cristo Moreno was an homage organized by the Empresa Peruana de Servicios Editoriales S. A. (Editora Perú), which groups the Diario Oficial El Peruano, the Agencia Peruana de Noticias Andina, and Servicios Editoriales y Gráficos (Segraf).
Transit Disruptions and Passenger Chaos in the Capital
The scale of the religious gathering triggered significant logistical challenges, requiring rolling street closures and widespread public transport detours managed by the Municipality of Lima and the Autoridad de Transporte Urbano (ATU). Bus routes along major corridors, including avenidas Tacna, Garcilaso de la Vega, Alfonso Ugarte, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Nicolás de Piérola, experienced mandatory temporary adjustments, with additional detours mapped through avenidas Prolongación Tacna, Francisco Pizarro, Caquetá, Tingo María, and Óscar R. Municipal operations aimed to progressively free up unblocked road segments rather than maintaining total closures across all sectors simultaneously.

The transit modifications sparked passenger frustration. Chaotic conditions on the Metropolitano system led to an incident when a commuter forcibly activated an emergency door release and jumped from a bus in an unauthorized zone of central Lima after failing to receive clear instructions during a route diversion. The transit authority reported that the passenger pulled the emergency release mechanism while the bus traveled along avenida Emancipación.
The Final Stretch and Upcoming Schedule
Following its passage, the sacred image was directed toward the Nazarenas to culminate its fourth procession. The anda will be guarded in the sanctuary of the Nazarenas, where it will remain until the following edition of the procession, planned for 2027.
