When exactly does the preload start? The preload for Lightfall and thus for the update 7.0.0.1 will be made available today on all platforms, i.e. PC, Xbox and Playstation.
To prepare for the launch of Lightfall, Destiny 2 is scheduled to have a 24-hour hiatus. The shooter will therefore go offline today, February 27, 2023 from 5:45 p.m. and will not be online again until Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.

Maintenance from 02/27 to 02/28 – All times and server down
These times are important for Lightfall:
- Destiny 2 will be offline for 24 hours on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 5:45 p.m.
- Ongoing activities will be terminated at this time.
- Players will not be able to log in again until Tuesday, February 28 at 6:00 p.m
- Some services on Bungie.net will also be unavailable during this time
- As soon as the servers are offline, the preload time should begin a short time later.
- Players of all platforms can download Lightfall during the 24 hours
- Console players who are having trouble updating to update 7.0.0.1 should restart their console and try downloading the update again.
- The Destiny 2 servers are scheduled to come back online promptly on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 6:00 p.m.
- So unless there are major issues, update 7.0.0.1 will then be available for all platforms and regions
- Players should then be able to log back in to play the Lightfall DLC for the first time
- Continuous background maintenance will then officially end at 7:00 p.m. if everything goes smoothly.
Other important information
Even if you have downloaded the update and are back in-game, you may experience connection issues until the end of maintenance at 7:00 p.m. You may also have to expect queues when logging in.
Once Destiny 2 is offline you will no longer be able to claim rewards or items. All expiring rewards from Season 19 and The Witch Queen must therefore be purchased and claimed by the start of the shutdown today at 6pm on February 27th.
This includes:
- Seasonal Seals and Rewards
- Season Pass Items
- Season Merchant Rewards
- Rewards from Shaxx, Zavala, Drifter, and Saint-14 playlists
- Banshee 44 reputation items
As always, on launch day, the API will be offline for a while, limiting the ability to transfer items via the companion app or other third-party apps. So it’s best to plan ahead today and throw your favorite weapons at the character you want to start with in Witch Queen.
In addition, cross-save users should note the following: Before launching Lightfall, players should ensure their Cross Save settings are fully linked and enabled before logging into Lightfall for the first time. This ensures that all season passes and dungeon keys purchased are assigned to the desired player account.
