Sexual assault and kidnapping; Vatican moves Mysore bishop

Bengaluru: The Vatican intervened and removed the bishop of Mysore following complaints including sexual allegations and kidnapping. Bishop Kanikadas A William has been instructed by the Vatican to go on leave. Instead, the former Archbishop of Bengaluru, Bernard Moras, is in charge of the administration of Mysuru. Bernard Moras retired from the post of Archbishop of Bengaluru in 2018.

Bishop William has been accused of sex and kidnapping, as well as several allegations of corruption. He also faced financial charges. Following this, there were many complaints against Bishop William including the Vatican. In 2019, 37 priests from various parishes in Mysuru district wrote to the Vatican with serious complaints against the bishop.

Prior to that, the bishop was sexually accused by a woman who was a member of the church. They allege that the bishop told them to give in if they want to give them a job. This woman had also filed a complaint against the bishop. Another serious allegation is that church funds were manipulated. In addition, it is stated in the complaint filed by the priests to the Vatican that the bishop has two children.
