Abu Dhabi: Forty days of mourning in the UAE following the death of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed). Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (73) is the second President of the United Arab Emirates.

The news of the head of state’s death was officially released by the UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs on Friday afternoon. He is also the 16th ruler of the Emirates of Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Khalifa became President of the country on November 3, 2004, following the death of his father, Sheikh Zayed.

Al Nahyan is the eldest son of Sheikh Zayed. Sheikh Zayed was the first President of the UAE from 1971 until his death on November 2, 2004.

After becoming President, Sheikh Khalifa followed in his father’s footsteps and led the reconstruction of the UAE federal government and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
