Shonda Rhimes is happy to have cast South Asian actresses in season two of Bridgerton. She addressed the multiculturalism of her series in an interview for Netflix.
The second season of Bridgerton was released on Friday, and Shonda Rhimes is thrilled to introduce a South Asian family.
Reflecting on her casting decision, Shonda Rhimes said it was time for people of South Asian descent to be better represented in Hollywood.
“Making the Sharmas of South Asian descent was self-evident. I wanted the world we lived in to be as three-dimensional as possible, and I, too, wanted to feel like the representation was as three-dimensional as possible, she said in an interview for Netflix. Finding darker-skinned South Asian women and making sure they’re portrayed on screen in an authentic and sincere way is something we haven’t seen enough of. I felt it was time for us to make sure we saw as many as possible. »
She then indicated that her entire creative team supports her desire to explore multiculturalism on screen. “I wanted to make sure that if you watch Bridgerton from another country, you don’t think, ‘Well, that has nothing to do with me. “Well, it totally has something to do with you. The humanity of each character should be universal,” the producer continued.
