The Swiss disgusted his opponents on the Stelvio track and took advantage of the poor performance of the Norwegian Kilde to take off in the general standings of the World Cup. Exploit of Loïc Meillard who finished 3rd.

What a demonstration by Marco Odermatt! The Nidwalden delivered a phenomenal performance during the Bormio Super-G by crushing the competition. Unbalanced at the back on the top of the track, the Swiss took all the risks on a very twisty, icy track with many blind gates. Bib 7, “Odi” crossed the finish line 2”26 ahead of his teammate Gino Caviezel.

Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, his main rival in the discipline with whom he shared the red bib before this third Super-G of the season (out of six on the program), almost fell on the track and was relegated 2”15 from the phenomenon. The 8th place of the Norwegian makes the business of the skier of Hergiswil in his quest for the globe of the specialty and the general of the World Cup, where he takes off.

Meillard signs his first podium in speed

The competitors followed one another and came, in turn, to greet the master. Because no one could be close to the time of Marco Odermatt, who signed his sixth victory in the discipline and the 16th overall. Only Vincent Kriechmayr, already winner of the descent the day before, finished in the same second (64 hundredths) as the Swiss on the Stelvio track.

The other feat of the day was achieved by Loïc Meillard. Although he had only entered the top 10 in Super-G twice (7th and 9th), the skier from Hérémence snatched a superb 3rd place, 1”22 behind his compatriot. Two other Swiss skiers finished in the top 10: Graubünden’s Stefan Rogentin (7th at 1”54) and Gino Caviezel (10th at 2”26). Already author of his best result the day before downhill (7th), the Valaisan Justin Murisier (13th at 2”63) would have achieved a new performance without a big mistake on the bottom of the route. For his first super-G in the World Cup, the Fribourgeois Alexis Monney scored his first points in the discipline by ranking 23rd.
