We learned this Wednesday evening: a skull that would be human was found in the rubble of the hangar destroyed by the flames and in which there were many animals in Angleur.
As a reminder, during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, around 2:15 a.m., the emergency services were informed that a fire had just broken out in a warehouse located on rue de Tilff.
The flames quickly destroyed the places in which there were about two hundred parrots, about twenty hens, but also a macaque. Police were tipped off by an anonymous witness that the owner was trafficking in exotic animals. The man is already known to the judicial authorities for animal trafficking offenses.
He would also have kept other animals that require authorization. The investigation will have to determine the number and the nature of the animals illegally held for some time at the place.
Designated Medical Examiner
When the emergency services entered the scene, a human skull was also found! A medical examiner was appointed to determine that it was indeed a human skull and not a primate skull. At the time of this writing, this skull has not been identified. It is not known if it would come from some sort of macabre collection or from another source. The investigation will have to determine the origin of this skull. The owner of the premises will also be heard regarding this element.
The man was deprived of his liberty for a hearing, especially since during a home visit, the police found a weapon at his home. The magistrate on duty at the Liège public prosecutor’s office has been informed of the facts.
The fire was of accidental origin.
