Skyler Gisondo Confirms Production Wrap on the Max Comedy
The next chapter of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s unfolding DC Universe is officially in the can. Speaking at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, star Skyler Gisondo provided an update on the live-action television project, telling Collider’s Steve Weintraub that production concluded just a few weeks prior. The series marks a sharp tonal pivot for the superhero franchise, leaning into true-crime parody rather than traditional comic book action.
Skyler Gisondo on People V Gorilla Grodd“This show, especially, is so fun because I’ve never seen anything like it — the idea of a mockumentary set in a superhero world. Tony [Yacenda] and Dan [Perrault] are such masters. I was such an enormous fan of American Vandal, and so to… pic.twitter.com/DbRJDwSmhM”
Gisondo admitted he had to carefully measure his words to avoid trouble with studio executives, but praised showrunners Dan Perrault and Tony Yascenda. “I can say it’s Dan Perrault and Tony Yascenda who are so brilliant, some of my favorite writers and filmmakers… they did, like, American Vandal, which is such a lights-out show, that first season’s like ten out of ten,” Gisondo noted at the festival. “They were the perfect guys for the job. This is like an approach to this world that we have not seen. I’m excited to see how it all shapes up.”
Putting DC’s Greatest Ape on Trial
The mockumentary format will put one of DC Comics’ most eccentric villains on trial in the court of public opinion. Gorilla Grodd, originally created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino in 1959’s Flash #106, hails from Gorilla City—a hidden nation-state of apes granted super-intelligence and mental powers by a crashed alien spacecraft. While his compatriots generally choose peace, the megalomaniacal Grodd employs his telepathic abilities to pursue global domination.
In this streaming series, Jimmy Olsen steps into an investigative role to examine the primate mastermind’s high-profile case. Jimmy Tatro steps into the role of Gorilla Grodd, bringing a comedic edge to a character historically known for terrorizing the Flash. The creative pedigree of Perrault and Yascenda signals a satirical approach to superhero lore that mirrors the investigative documentary style of their previous hit work.

A Busy Slate Ahead for DC’s Rising Star
The production wrap on the Grodd project caps off a breakout awards season stretch for Gisondo, who was honored at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival as one of its annual Breaking Big honorees alongside actors such as Adia, India Amarteifio, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Summer H. Howell, and fellow DC Studios star Tom Rhys Harries, who is slated to appear as Clayface.
Following his acclaimed turn in Lance Oppenheim’s docudrama Primetime, Gisondo’s autumn schedule includes the holiday comedy sequel Focker-In-Law, where he plays the son of Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) and fiancé to Olivia Jones (Ariana Grande). Voiceover work also calls next year with Shrek 5, alongside his return to the silver screen as Jimmy Olsen in the upcoming superhero feature Man of Tomorrow.
With The People v. Gorilla Grodd now safely in post-production, DC Studios has yet to lock down an exact premiere date for the Max series.
