Horror movie “Smile”, with a deceptive title, topped the box office revenue in America for the second week, taking nearly 17.6 million dollars, according to the specialist “Expert Relations” company.
Susie Bacon, the daughter of actors Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, plays a therapist who begins to struggle after witnessing a horrific event related to one of her patients.
The movie “Smile”, upon its opening showing, Friday, in American cinemas, earned $ 8.2 million from 3,645 theaters, while its budget was only $ 17 million, which confirms that the film will achieve very high profits.
Sony’s new live-action animated musical comedy “Lay Lyle Crocodile” took second place with $11.5 million in revenue.
Analyst David Gross described this result as a “weak start” despite the film’s good reviews, which had stars cast their voices on its characters, including Javier Bardem, Shawn Mendes and Constance.
And in third place, another new work is the comedy suspense “Amsterdam”, which took 6.5 million dollars. The film garnered poor reviews, despite what Gross described as “an impressive array of talent in front of and behind the camera.”
The film, signed by director David, features a cast of stars such as Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, Chris Rock, Taylor Swift, Matthias Schoenaerts, Rami Malek and Robert De Niro. Its story revolves around the mysterious murder of an American senator.
In fourth place, down one place from last week, the movie “The Woman King”, inspired by historical events, earned $5.3 million in revenue, and Viola Davis plays the role of the leader of an army of African warriors.
And “Don’t Worry Darling”, produced by Warner Bros., took fifth place, with $3.5 million.
