Social Welfare strengthens its campaign against child labor

Eradicate child labor and protect young workers by preventing children and adolescents from being exploited and used on the streets to sell things or beg for money is one of the central objectives of the campaign #PorUnaCaliLibreDeTrabajoInfantil.

The campaign includes control days led by the team of professionals from the Family and Childhood program of the Social Welfare Secretariat.

With this initiative, the District Administration intends to position the ICBF 141 hotline and complaint line among the public and provide information through information billboards located at key points in the city such as the carrera 24 with calle 5; calle 9 with 14, in San Bosco; Calle 25 with Carrera 28, corner of Galería Santa Helena, and Calle 16 with Carrera 56.

Similarly, fences have been placed, known as ecoles, in strategic places such as: Transport Terminal, Torre de Cali, Bulevar del Río, Plazoleta Jairo Varela and Avenida Cañasgordas; Also in the Chipichape, Jardín Plaza, Único, Unicentro, 14 de Calima, Cosmocentro, Palmetto, Éxito La Flora, Éxito Calipso and La Estación shopping centers.

Eder Ramírez, psychologist of the program, explained that in 2022, the balance registered 98% of cases corresponding to families of Venezuelan migrants and the remaining 2% involving children and adolescents (NNA) from families from the Aguablanca sector and the area of ​​Ladera communes 1, 2, 18 and 20. The result was obtained in the development of 21 control days against child labor carried out with the Colombian Family Welfare Institute (ICBF), the Health and Government secretariats, the Municipal Ombudsman and the Police for Children and Adolescents.
