Sons of the Forest: Clone Kelvin and Virginia

Can there ever be too many Kelvins in Sons of the Forest?

In Sons of the Forest you can currently recruit two companions: the foolish Kelvin and the shy killer Virginia. Isn’t that enough for you? Then you should discover Reddit users jrm850 please.

The Sons of the Forest player managed to clone the game’s NPCs and theoretically let them spawn infinitely often. What do you need for this? Just two simple mods and corresponding console commands.

Infinite spawning of companions in Sons of the Forest

You need these mods: To access the Sons of the Forest console commands, you must first log in the FrameWork tool for Unity modding download and then the dedicated DebugConsole-Mod for Sons of the Forest. Don’t be put off by this, in the end you just have to download and open the appropriate files, if in doubt read the instructions in the Thunderstore!

Here’s how to clone Kelvin and Virginia: If you have installed both mods and started Sons of the Forest, you can now open the DebugConsole by pressing the F1 key while the game is running. To add additional AI companions to the game world, simply type in the following commands:

  • Kelvin spawnen: addcharacter Robby 1
  • Virginia spawnen: addcharacter virginia 1

By the way, what it looks like when several Kelvins build a tree house at the same time, take a look at the following GIF by our colleagues from PCGamer. Author Morgan Park speculates that this works so well that maybe even more NPC companions were or are planned for Sons of the Forest:

What should you consider when cloning NPCs? Reddit user jrm850 has already experimented extensively with spawning additional Kelvins and Virginias and found that the two NPC companions can theoretically be spawned infinitely often. However, too many clones will eventually result in FPS drops, so don’t overdo it.

Likewise, jrm850 describes that there are actually no problems with four or fewer companions (except maybe if one Kelvin drops logs on another Kelvin) and that the console commands can also be used in multiplayer sessions.

Of course you can use other console commands in Sons of the Forest to manipulate the game. For example, certain objects can be spawned or items and enemies can be spawned. Modder CallMeSlinky only warns that if there is too much practical jokes, there is a risk of destroying your own save. Also create a savegame backup just in case.
