Guatemala vs Ecuador: South American team boasts of “paternity” over the bicolor

This Thursday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. the Guatemalan National Team led by Mexican coach Luis Fernando Tena will play against his counterpart from Ecuador at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey in a duel that will serve as preparation for both squads.
The national bicolor is about to begin its path in the Concacaf qualifiers towards the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada that will take place in 2026.
While Ecuador will compete in the Copa América USA 2024 in the coming months and will begin its preparation against Guatemala.
Both teams know each other well since in the last 40 years they have faced each other 8 times; The duel on March 21 will be the ninth in a history that largely dominates Ecuador.
The first result that occurred between Guatemala and Ecuador was a 1-0 victory for the blue and white that dates back to 1984.
To date, this is Guatemala’s only victory against the Ecuadorian team since 3 draws and 4 losses follow.
The ties were created between 1992 (1-1) and a double 0-0 between 1997 and 1999. While in that last year they faced each other again and that is where the Ecuadorian hegemony with four consecutive wins.
On June 4, 1999, the “tri” beat the bicolor 3-1 and since then the results are as follows:

After the duel against Ecuador is over, the Guatemalan National Team will head to Houston, since on Sunday the 24th they face Venezuela at the Shell Energy stadium at 4 p.m.
