Spain: 360 deaths have been recorded to date due to a heat wave that reaches 44 degrees

The number of deceased due to the heat wave in Spain amounts to 360 to date, after registering extreme temperatures up to 44 degrees in some parts of the country, according to official data published today, Saturday.

These data from Carlos III Health Institutedependent on the Ministry of Health in Spain, correspond to the period from July 10, the beginning of the wave, until Friday the 15th. Only on this last day were 123 deceased and is considered the heat wave peak.

Since the 10th, the trend has been ascending, with 15 dead that day and practically twice as many, 28, the next. While on Tuesday the 12th, 41 people died, 60 on Wednesday the 13th and 93 on Thursday the 14th.

The most extreme temperatures, which have been recorded in many parts of the country since last Sunday, began to subside on Friday, although all regions, except the Atlantic islands of the Canary Islands, continue to be on alert before the forecast up to 44 degrees centigrade in some places.

Cities like Madrid have reached 40 degrees, although for the moment the national maximum has not been exceeded, which has been held by a municipality in the south of the country since last summer with 47.2 degrees.

The heat has also led to numerous forest fires in different parts of Spain, with thousands of hectares burned and rural populations evicted despite a wide deployment of firefighting means. (EFE)
