Spanish coalition asks government to ban Israel from Olympics

The left-wing Sumar party, part of the Spanish government coalition, is demanding that Israel be deprived of its right to participate in the Paris Olympics due to the bloodshed that occurred in the Gaza Strip. In their opinion, Israeli athletes should, like representatives of Russia, participate in the games under a neutral flag.

Sumar would like the Spanish government to encourage the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to exclude Israel from the Paris Olympics and Paralympics. This proposal was voiced by a party representative, who said that such an issue should be brought up for discussion in the Education and Sports Committee.

According to their assessment, a country that does not comply with the Olympic Charter and does not ensure a truce in the year of the Olympics in conditions of armed conflict should be deprived of the right to participate in the Olympic Games. “Many countries are making this demand. We believe that, like Russia, Israel should also be excluded from participating in the Olympics until the bloodshed stops,” party spokesman Nahuel Gonzalez said.

He stressed that they do not want to interfere with the participation of Israeli athletes in the Olympics. “It is unacceptable for the State of Israel to take part in an event of peace and friendship such as the Olympic Games.

At previous Olympics, athletes from countries in conflict competed under the IOC flag. We do not want to interfere with any athlete, we want to say that the State of Israel must immediately stop the genocide,” he added.
