Spatial audio in cars: ongoing talks between Apple and automakers

Last October, Apple announced a partnership with Mercedes-Benz to make Apple Music’s spatial audio sound in several models of the German manufacturer (EQA, EAE, S-Class and Maybach, not really entry-level).

On the occasion of the presentation in London of the Apple Music Classical application, The echoes received confirmation that other agreements of the same type were under discussion with car manufacturers. The daily does not specify whether the info came directly from Oliver Schusser, the boss of Apple Music world, present on site to spread the word. But then again, that wouldn’t be surprising.

We will have to see if Apple’s hardware requirements will be lowered: at Mercedes, spatial audio requires the Burmester 4D option which installs 31 speakers in the cabin. Not a word either on the support of CarPlay by Apple Music Classical… Mercedes drivers will console themselves by launching the latest hits of the moment: Apple Music has indeed been integrated into the MBUX system of the car manufacturer for two years.
