A special sporting event has been announced for mid-June in the German capital: the Special Olympics World Games 2023 have come to Berlin. As the name suggests, this is a major sporting event very similar to the Olympic Games. In the various disciplines – according to the schedule there are 26 in total – the athletes have had to prove themselves since June 17, 2023. This includes, for example, basketball, horseback riding or bowling. The only difference: at the Special Olympics, athletes with mental or multiple disabilities compete.
In 2023, the games will be hosted in Germany for the first time. The event originally comes from the USA, where it took place exclusively in the first few years; the first games were held in 1968. As with the classic Olympics, the summer and winter games alternate every two years.

Transmission of the Special Olympics 2023 in Berlin on free TV and stream
Not only one broadcaster reports on the Special Olympics World Games, but eleven media companies have joined forces for it: ARD, ZDF, RTL, ProSieben/Sat1, Sky, Sport1, Prime Video, Meta, DAZN, Bild and the Deutsche Telekom accompany the sporting event in the media. In some cases there is live reporting from the location of the event: The opening ceremony will be at rbbat Sky and up sportdeutschland.tv transmitted at the same time. Live reporting is also planned for the closing ceremony and for 13 of the 26 sports. The other sports are covered via summaries.
