Kim Min-seon, who has recently emerged as a ‘new ice queen’ by showing overwhelming skills in the short-distance women’s speed skating event, unfortunately failed to win a medal in the 500m event of the 2022-2023 ISU World Championships held at dawn on the 4th. Kim Min-seon finished fourth with a record difference of just 0.02 seconds from Ley Leydham, Utah, of the Netherlands, who won her bronze medal.
Kim Min-seon has recently participated in numerous international competitions, and recorded overwhelming results by winning gold medals in all events from the 1st to 5th competitions in the women’s 500m event held six times in the Speed Skating World Cup. However, perhaps because she competed in too many events, including the Speed Skating World Cup, the Four Continents Championships and the Winter Games, she did not show explosive performance in the 500m event at the World Championships, and she ultimately failed to win a medal.
Although she failed to win a medal, Kim Min-seon updated her personal best performance at the World Championships, and is writing a new history of Korean women’s speed skating following Lee Sang-hwa, the ‘Emperor of Ice’.
