Dune: part two

In a desert universe, with a fantastic bestiary with its giant worms, we follow the trajectory of the character endorsed by Timothée Chalamet, star Franco-American actor (“The Daughters of Doctor March”, “Wonka”). He is Paul Atréides, last scion of an destroyed lineage, who completes his transformation into a vengeful leader.
Zendaya (“Spider-Man” franchise, “Euphoria” series), another superstar in the credits, plays Chani, bristling at Paul’s compromises to reach the top, despite their love story. The tipping point, when a pretender is seen as a messiah by supporters who have become devout, is one of the highlights of the film.

We find in particular in the casting: Fabrice Eboué, Alexandra Lamy, Anouk Grinberg and Pauline Clément. “Five million more changes everything, but it doesn’t just change the wallet, it also changes in the head, it can make you hysterical,” relates to Franceinfo comedian Fabrice Eboué, who plays a father who will engage in a real time trial to validate his winning ticket before the expiration date.

Karaoke

A “feel good” comedy that surfs on a leisure activity that is back in fashion: karaoke, whose Japanese inventor of the concept recently died.

In this feature film by Stéphane Ben Lahcen, Bénédicte (played by Michèle Laroque), a famous opera singer, gets fired after a drunken evening, the images of which were leaked on social networks. Passionate about karaoke, Fatou (Claudia Tagbo) is the only one to reach out to him. And motivates the singer to participate in a major national karaoke competition.

A life

Heavy casting: Anthony Hopkins, Helena Bonham Carter, Jonathan Pryce. The feature film traces the life of a British hero of the Second World War: Nicholas Winton. It is an adaptation of a book retracing the latter’s life written by his daughter, Barbara Winton.

Nicknamed the “British Schindler”, the broker Nicholas Winton decided to go to Czechoslovakia in 1938. In Prague, he organized the rescue of 669 children, most of them Jewish, who would be sent to England by train.

Five decades later, the man, then played by Anthony Hopkins, is invited to a BBC TV set where he meets the children he saved.

In the shoes of Blanche Houellebecq

After “The Abduction of Michel Houellebecq” and “Thalasso”, the writer plays his own role for the third time, always under the camera of Guillaume Nicloux.

The pitch for this new collaboration? The author of Elementary particles goes to Guadeloupe to attend a lookalike competition dedicated to him. The jury is chaired by Blanche Gardin, who also plays herself.

On the island, in the grip of independence unrest, the two characters are welcomed as if they were married. And events will then unfold in this completely crazy comedy.

There is still tomorrow

A low-budget film, a real phenomenon in recent months in Italy with five million admissions, “There’s Still Tomorrow” attracted nearly 150,000 spectators to French cinemas during its first week of operation.

A black and white film in square format, the first feature film by director Paola Cortellesi, who plays the main role, is set in the second half of the 1940s. We follow Delia, a mother of three children married to a violent husband who takes on odd jobs.

A most gloomy life which will be disrupted by the arrival of a mysterious letter which will encourage this woman to change her life.
