On Saturday evening, after the end of the St. Gallen Festival, many visitors continued partying into the morning. According to the city police, after the St. Gallen festival was largely quiet, there were ugly scenes in front of the Trischli nightclub on Brühlgasse on Sunday morning.
A video by a news scout shows images from the club’s surveillance camera, which is filming the outside entrance at Trischli. In the video, three men can be seen talking to nightclub security. About what is unclear.
gun in his pocket
You can see how one of the security guards hits one of the men in the face and the situation escalates: The man throws a drink he is holding at a security employee and takes a few steps back. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a gun, which he first loads and then points at security.
The news scout was there because he was on his way home. “The men wanted to get into the club and were not allowed in, so the situation escalated after an aggressive conversation,” says the news scout. He wasn’t afraid himself because the men were from St. Gallen and he knew who they were. “The weapon was not used, but the man loaded it and aimed it,” said the news scout.
history unclear
Other passers-by made a detour to avoid the scenes of the man with the gun in his hand. The police were not on site during the whole incident. The news scout received the video because it was “doing the rounds in St. Gallen”.
After a brief shock, the security guards are able to push the three men back with pepper spray. Then another man throws glasses at them. After that you can see how the situation calms down a bit. It is still unclear what happened prior to the escalation. The nightclub could not be reached for a statement on Tuesday.
City police are aware
The St. Gallen city police know the video. “We know that a handgun was involved in the incident and that’s why we took action,” says Roman Kohler, spokesman for the St. Gallen city police. In principle, the police only become active without reporting an offense if it is an official offence. The police have not yet received any reports of the Sunday morning incident.
Violating the Weapons Act is a so-called official offence. This means that the police will act on their own initiative. “As far as we know, there were no injuries. However, there is a violation of the weapons law, which is why the city police will file a complaint against unknown persons, »said Kohler.
Handgun in exit an exception
Daniel Weder, board member of Nacht Gallen is surprised. “You tend to have cases where you take a knife or something from someone, but a handgun is more special,” says Weder.
Sometimes it also happens that someone unknowingly still has a pocket knife somewhere in their trouser pocket or pocket. “I then get a message about the confiscation of a weapon, but it’s just an accident, which isn’t differentiated,” says Weder.
In principle, however, he does not think that the number of weapons in the exit has changed. “People know that they will be checked at the entrance and maybe that’s why some people leave their guns outside. But what do you want with a handgun in a club?” Weder wonders.
