St. Louis Blues Set Lineup Changes for Home Opener Against Sharks

The St. Louis Blues return to the Enterprise Center for their home opener following a challenging road trip, with head coach Jim Montgomery announcing a key adjustment to the team’s defensive pairings. After suffering consecutive losses on the road, including a recent defeat against the Chicago Blackhawks, the Blues are looking to reset their momentum as they prepare to face the San Jose Sharks.

The upcoming contest marks Justin Barron's debut in a Blues uniform. To accommodate this change, Lucas Lindstein will be a healthy scratch for the home opener. Montgomery emphasized that the decision is rooted in team strategy rather than dissatisfaction with Lindstein’s performance, noting the importance of rotating the roster to evaluate different personnel.

“We need to get guys in. It’s not a reflection on Lindstein’s play. I do think he has to be more impactful in the game himself, but we are giving an opportunity getting Barron in a game,” Montgomery said regarding the defensive shakeup.

Coaching Staff Reunites Top Forward Line

Beyond the defensive changes, the coaching staff is reuniting the top forward line consisting of Dylan Holloway, Robert Thomas, and Jimmy Snuggerud. This trio was briefly separated during the loss in Chicago, a game that saw Pavel Buchnevich moved up to the first unit and Holloway shifted to the third line.

Holloway expressed a need for personal improvement following the team’s recent struggles. “I thought some guys tonight had great games, and myself, I don’t think I played very well at all, so definitely need to grow,” Holloway stated following the Tuesday night loss. The winger is expected to play a central role in driving the offense as the team attempts to find its rhythm before the home crowd.

Goaltending Strategy for the Home Opener

In goal, Joel Hofer has been confirmed as the starter for the home opener. Hofer’s early season performance has been marked by contrast; he secured a shutout against the Dallas Stars, one of the league’s best, but struggled in the subsequent loss to the Chicago Blackhawks. The coaching staff is placing their confidence in Hofer to anchor the team against San Jose.

Jordan Binnington, a Stanley Cup Champion, made only one appearance during the recent road trip and is expected to remain on the bench for the home opener.

The Blues’ defensive pairings for the upcoming game are slated as follows:

  • Philip Broberg – Adam Jircek
  • Justin Barron – Colton Parayko
  • Cam Fowler – Brandon Carlo
