Stephen Silas is (surely) living his last moments on the Houston bench

After two seasons on the Rockets bench, Stephen Silas should not continue the adventure. Despite an additional year as an option, it should not be waived by the Houston board, which is already looking for a coach with a more experienced profile.

This is Jake Fischer from Yahoo Sports who reported the news: Stephen Silas will likely be replaced as Rockets head coach. Not really a surprise given the results of recent years, or rather the lack of results.

Arrived in September 2020 in a happy mess in Houston, Stephen Silas had a tough first season as head coach. By recovering a large engine from the West driven at the time by Mike D’Antoni, we thought that the coach had enough to do for a first experience. But its two superstars of the time – James Harden and Russell Westbrook – decided to pack up, the first even adopting a diva behavior which had spoiled the atmosphere at the time. Balance sheet at the end of the season: 17-55, naughty.

Exit the veterans roster, Houston has become an NBA underworld team that is all about young people. As a result, the 2021-22 season also ended with a starving 20-62 record.

With an average age of 24.6 years, Houston once again had one of the youngest squads in the League this year. It is therefore logical to lose matches (21 wins – 60 losses this season), but it is above all the way that has bothered.

One of the franchise’s few veterans, Eric Gordon, fired live ammunition midway through the season complaining of a dire lack of progression from young Rockets, despite accumulating talents like Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr. or Alperen Sengun. Inevitably, this kind of statement, it turns against Stephen Silas in one way or another.

It is true that we do not see great reasons for improvement in Houston, and the management of the group has not been optimal on the part of Silas. Evidenced by the altercation Jabari Smith Jr. vs Jalen Green during a meeting against the Jazz last December.

In short, a complicated balance sheet for coach Silas with a situation not really in his favor either. In the end, his record of 56 wins for 177 losses obviously not speaking for him. In press conferencethe tactician nevertheless wanted to keep only the best (so not much), admitting half-words that it would not be kept:

“I’m proud of the work I’ve done. I have a three-year contract and this is the last home game of these three years. I can only be proud of what I have achieved here.”

A ringing statement like a farewell, while the Texan board is already working to replace it. Among the potential candidates who are in the small papers of Houston: Ime Udoka, Nick Nurse, Kenny Atkinson or Scott Brooks.
