Stocker on short trial: “Unexpected verdict”

Now the outcome of the appeal proceedings remains to be seen

Vienna (OTS) – “It is an unexpected verdict. It is regrettable for Sebastian Kurz that the first court, although he was acquitted on several points, was found guilty on one point because a lot of statements exonerating Sebastian Kurz were made during the evidentiary proceedings. This decision by the first court is therefore surprising for us, but we must take note of it. This initial judgment will now be examined in the appeal process. It therefore remains unclear how the appeal court will assess the evidence and the procedure. It is therefore a decision that is not yet legally binding, so the outcome of the appeal proceedings remains to be seen. “I would have liked Sebastian Kurz and Bernhard Bonelli to have made a different decision in the first instance proceedings,” said Christian Stocker, General Secretary of the People’s Party.
