Storm Isha disrupted the flight plan of the pilot and passengers of easyJet flight U22142 between Antalya (Turkey), a tourist town on the Turkish Mediterranean coast, nicknamed the “Turkish Riviera” and Manchester (United Kingdom).

THE strong winds, which swept across the north of France this Sunday January 21, 2024, forced the company to change the final destination at the very last minute.

The plane circles over Manchester

The plane Airbus A320 had to make an emergency landing at Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport even though the flight had previously approached the British airport.

According to the plan available on the specialist site flightradar24, the aircraft was able to take off at 7:35 p.m. from Turkey to head to the United Kingdom. Arriving towards Manchester, its destination airport, the Airbus made a strange maneuver by turning in circles then turned around to reach France by crossing the Channel a second time.

The flight departed from Antalya in Turkey to Manchester Airport in the United Kingdom. But upon arriving at the city, the easyJet plane turned around and headed towards France to land at Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport during the night. (©flightradar24.com)

Air traffic control restrictions have been introduced, leading to some flight cancellations at airports across the UK, including Manchester. In other cases, pilots were forced to abort landings and fly hundreds of miles to land safely.

Passengers traveling from Manchester to Dublin spent 11 hours on board their Ryanair flight which finally landed in France, at Beauvais airport (Oise).

The storm subsided on Monday and flights are once again operating at British airports affected by the strong winds.
