Minister of the Interior Karner thanks the police and fire brigade for their action after storms in Carinthia and Styria – 6,000 operations with 15,000 fire brigade members deployed

Vienna (OTS) After the violent storms in Carinthia and Styria, Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner thanks the police officers on duty as well as the men and women of the volunteer fire brigade. Beginning on the evening of August 3, 2023, there were 6,000 deployments involving 15,000 firefighters over the weekend.

“Our fire brigades are doing invaluable work during these hours, for which they deserve great recognition and sincere thanks,” said Interior Minister Karner on August 7, 2023 in Vienna. “The central importance of the fire brigades – including the many volunteers – became clear once again last weekend. Not only are they tirelessly fighting the floods, but they are helping families in need.”

All those police officers who are involved in flood operations with the volunteer fire brigades receive special leave. If employees of the Ministry of the Interior are themselves affected by the flood event and urgent emergency and clean-up work is required, the absence from work is also considered justified.
