Sapporo, Hokkaido – A heartwarming display of intergenerational connection unfolded on Saturday, October 4th, as the Kirin Family Challenge Cup made its debut in Hokkaido. The event,a specialized form of ‘Walking Football,’ drew 292 participants ranging in age from infants to 90-year-olds,fostering a spirit of unity and fun for families and friends.
A New Approach to Team Sports
Jointly organized by Kirin Holdings and the Japan Football association (JFA), the kirin Family challenge Cup commenced in December 2022, aiming to deepen familial bonds through shared sporting experiences. Walking Football, a modified version of the customary game, emphasizes teamwork and participation over intense physicality, making it accessible to individuals of all ages and abilities. Approximately 2,000 people have participated in the series thus far.
Star Athletes join the Fun
The Hokkaido event saw participation from esteemed former athletes, including Yosuke Kashiwagi, Rita Yasuda, and Yoichiro kakitani from the SAMURAI BLUE (Japan’s national football team), alongside Yukari Chikaga and Aya Miyama from the Nadeshiko Japan women’s team. These sporting icons actively engaged with attendees, joining in the games and fostering a celebratory atmosphere.

A Day of Activities and Party
The event commenced with all participants learning the “Cracki! Dance,” a choreographed routine developed by the JFA in collaboration with EXILE TETSUYA. Following the games, a ‘Goal Performance award’ recognized teams for their creativity and enthusiasm.
