Suda51 Pursues Nintendo Switch 2 Port and Physical Edition for Romeo Is a Dead Man
Game developer Goichi Suda, known widely as Suda51, is running technical tests to evaluate whether Romeo Is a Dead Man can launch on the unreleased Nintendo Switch successor alongside a physical media release, according to gaming outlet Nintenderos. The title is built using the Unreal Engine, meaning its arrival on the console hinges entirely on how efficiently the game engine performs on the upcoming platform.

Grasshopper Manufacture wants to publish the action title on Nintendo hardware while offering players a traditional disc or cartridge edition. Suda said the studio initially negotiated with multiple companies to manage both the port development and physical manufacturing. Those early talks eventually collapsed due to various unnamed complications. NetEase Games holds the intellectual property rights to the game, meaning Grasshopper cannot greenlight the console port independently.
Ongoing Negotiations With NetEase and Hardware Partners
Discussions regarding the project remain active despite previous setbacks. Suda stated that the studio is still talking with NetEase Games and remaining third-party partners to secure a path forward for the title. The development team views a physical release as a priority prerequisite for any potential Nintendo Switch 2 port.
Suda stated that as he had mentioned on a couple of occasions, they want to bring Romeo Is a Dead Man to Switch 2, noting that it is something they would really like to do. He explained that they had spoken with several companies to manage both the port development and the physical edition, and while it seemed for a while that everything was going well, most of those conversations unfortunately ended up failing for different reasons. He added that it remains something they hope to pull off.
The studio aims to release the physical version first if agreements clear, followed by a digital or physical console port.
Platform Readiness and Unreal Engine Performance Tests
Technical hurdles dictate the current timeline for the project. Because the game is developed with Unreal Engine, its arrival on the new Nintendo console will depend on whether the engine works properly on the platform. Suda indicated that if all involved parties grant approval, production could move quickly.
No official release date or confirmation has been announced by platform holders. NetEase Games has not yet issued a public statement regarding the status of the port negotiations.
