Hospital Edmundo Vasconcelos acquires new equipment for robotic surgeries and hopes to increase the number of surgical procedures

Hospital Edmundo Vasconcelos announced the acquisition of new equipment to perform more efficient surgical procedures and more accurate diagnoses. This is the new Da Vinci Xi robotic system, which will allow performing robotic surgeries in a minimally invasive way and in a much more agile and accurate way. The robot is already in operation at the hospital.

The new Da Vinci Xi robot brings less invasive and effective surgeries to surgical procedures, with benefits for patients and doctors

According to the general director of Hospital Edmundo Vasconcelos, Dario Ferreira Neto, robotic surgery will reduce risks, reduce recovery time and bring more satisfactory results for patients’ recovery.
“The fourth generation of this robot differs from previous versions by having a greater capacity to provide a three-dimensional and enlarged view of the surgery site, thanks to the technology of detailed and high resolution images (including 3D), offering a more clear and sharp. This investment underscores our commitment to providing high-quality healthcare and advancing at the forefront of state-of-the-art medicine and technology,” says Dario.

Robotic Surgery

According to the executive, another differential of robotic surgery is that robotic arms offer more precision and stability, which allows delicate manipulation of tissues during surgery. “The robotic arms that are made using tweezers and a precise controller that even reduces hand tremor and tension in both short and long surgeries. There is also the improvement with ergonomics, as the surgery can be performed with the doctor sitting down”, he explains. According to him, with more efficiency, the doctor will be able to perform more than one surgery per day depending on the complexity, which benefits both the doctor and the patient who will have a faster postoperative period and recovery, reducing their hospitalization time. , hotel costs, hospital expenses, among others.

Team trained and prepared for robotic surgical procedures

Present at Hospital Edmundo Vasconcelos since the end of June, so far five surgical procedures have been performed. In all, the hospital already has 15 doctors and a team of nurses trained to operate the robot, but the intention is for more doctors to be certified to perform robotic surgeries. The hospital also wants to expand the number of patients with the attractiveness of robotic surgery. “Our objective is also that external physicians become aware of the availability of structure for robotic surgery and bring their surgeries to Edmundo Vasconcelos”, details the general director. In all, Brazil already has more than 1,200 doctors certified to perform robotic surgeries.

New ultrasound machine

In addition to the robot, another novelty is the BK5000 ultrasound, which will help in the intraoperative process in the analysis and visualization of lesions during surgery and for better delimitation of the area to be removed in surgical procedures.
