Suwałki gap: Lukashenko threatens NATO 2024-03-28 02:09:49

EIt was a scene straight out of a James Bond film, with Alexandr Lukashenko in the role of the supervillain. For the first time, the Minsk ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly discussed possible military operations in the so-called Suwałki Gap between Belarus and the Russian exclave Königsberg. Sitting on Lukashenko’s lap was the white Pomeranian Umka, for example: Seelchen. He often accompanies Lukashenko on trips and has even lain on the set table at receptions or walked around between the plates. With regard to the host, for whose “insulting” Belarusians are regularly sent to prison camps, no guest should be offended by this.

Lukashenko made the comments on Tuesday afternoon during what his media apparatus described as an “unannounced check of combat readiness.” For this purpose, the ruler visited a tank battalion near the northwest Belarusian town of Ashmyany. Official video footage shows Lukashenko and his Spitz in a tent with military officers. “They constantly complain so much about the Suwałki Corridor,” says the ruler, referring to NATO, which, among other things, is testing the defense of the area in the “Steadfast Defender” exercise this spring.
