Marking the 140th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and France, the Suwon Cultural Exhibition was held in Korea this week following its initial run at the Paris Chuseok Festival in September, dongbangilbo.co.kr reported.
A Homecoming at Haenggungjae Gallery
The exhibition, titled “Suwon Culture Goes to Paris,” opened on October 6 at the Haenggungjae Gallery in Suwon.
Suwon Special City Council Chairperson Kim Mi-kyung attended the opening ceremony on October 6 to view the displays and meet with regional artists and project organizers. Dongbangilbo.co.kr noted that the Chairperson inspected the galleries and discussed international cultural exchanges with local creators.
Honoring 140 Years of Bilateral Ties
“This year marks the 140th anniversary of Korea-France diplomatic relations, making cultural exchanges between our two countries particularly meaningful,” Chairperson Kim stated during her opening remarks, as reported by dongbangilbo.co.kr.
“It is deeply meaningful to welcome back to Suwon the works that widely promoted the beauty of our traditions and Suwon’s culture and arts in Paris last September,” Kim added.
Traditional Aesthetics and Regional Artistry
The homecoming exhibition is hosted by the Haenggungjae complex and sponsored by Suwon City. It runs through October 25 at the Haenggungjae Gallery.
Visitors can view installation art such as artist Jang Hye-hong’s “Colors of Korea,” alongside various works highlighting Korean traditional aesthetics and Suwon’s distinct regional arts.
Aligning with Suwon Hwaseong Festival
The schedule of the exhibition coincides directly with the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival.
The exhibition also coincides with the designated “Visit Suwon Year,” serving as an active promotional platform for domestic and international travelers exploring the area’s cultural assets.
Institutional Support for Local Creators
“As we celebrate ‘Visit Suwon Year,’ I hope many citizens and tourists visiting the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival and this exhibition will enjoy Suwon’s diverse culture and arts together,” Chairperson Kim said, according to dongbangilbo.co.kr.
She also affirmed the city council’s institutional commitment to supporting local creators. “The Suwon Special City Council will also lend its strength so that the creative activities of local artists and domestic and international cultural exchanges can continue more actively,” Kim stated.
