We have already shown here MacMagazine numerous situations in which the devices of the Apple with network integration Look for (Find My) they helped recover lost items (or cases in which they themselves were recovered), but it’s not often that stories like this end with a happy ending.

In Missouri (United States), for example, a house was invaded by a team of SWAT by mistake after agents concluded that there were a pair of AirPods stolen from the residence — based on the word of a witness who indicated that the accessory was in a stolen car.

The case happened in May 2023, when a mistaken search warrant caused the team in question to travel almost 16 kilometers from the location where the robbery took place in the expectation of finding firearms or something related to the crime.

After a SWAT member made a hole the size of a basketball in the drywall of the residence and another agent went through the suspended ceiling, in addition to completely ransacking the house, the AirPods were found outside the home — revealing the failure that was the entire operation.

According to website information Riverfront Timeseverything indicates that the criminals who were in the stolen car noticed the AirPods inside the vehicle and threw it while escaping — precisely to avoid being tracked.

The family whose home was broken into is suing those responsible for “damage and questionable police tactics” — and recent similar cases indicate that the victims may be compensated for what happened.
